President Salva Kiir Mayardit has been briefed by the Special Envoy on Great Lakes Region, Dr. James Pitia Morgan, regarding the current situation in the Great Lakes Region, particularly the conflict in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Today’s meeting follows President Kiirβs last year’s peace mission to the DRC, Rwanda, Burundi, and Angola, aimed at fostering peace stability, and mending diplomatic relations among these key member states.
President Kiir emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and urged the Special Envoy to continue engaging with the regional leaders to reinforce efforts towards peace and stability in the Eastern DRC.
The Envoy expressed appreciation for President Kiir’s proactive measures in tackling issues of peace and stability in the region as evidently seen throughout his sustained collaborative efforts and building trust among nations towards finding an amicable approach to the prevailing issues.
