What Triggered Violence in Malakal

At this moment let me convey my deepest heartfelt condolences to a bereaved family, friends and colleagues of the late Kiir Aben Adung who was heinously killed in hands of mobilized criminals’ youth at Malakal (PoC) UNMISS gate on Thursday evening, May 30, 2024.

Late Kiir Aben was a strong energetic and committed young man driver who took civilians from Malakal town to UNMISS. On his way to UNMISS last station when passengers get out of his car, suddenly a crowd of youth with sticks, pangas, spears and axes surrounded and attack him fiercely and immediately killed.

At this critical moment I registered and condemned this brutal killing and all these negative behaviors by criminals’ youth from (poC) this makes us feel discouraging and totally unhappy. I wish you all the strength and courage to overcome this critical situation. And therefore, I urge UNMISS through the state government security organs to apprehend all those criminals and bring them to book to calm this precarious situation in the state.

I finally, call upon family and relatives to remain calm and may God comfort all the family, friends and colleagues.
