South Sudan is Urging the Sudanese Government to Investigate the Reported Killings of South Sudanese Nationals in Wad Madani

South Sudan is urging the Sudanese government to investigate the reported killings of South Sudanese nationals in Wad Madani, Gezira State, after the town’s recapture by Sudanese armed forces.

Speaking to the press in Juba on Wednesday, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador John Samuel Bowgo, said South Sudan has formally conveyed its deepest concerns over the incident to Khartoum.

Ambassador Bowgo stated that the government of South Sudan is urging Sudan to identify and bring to justice those responsible for the killings.

“We have requested that we are given consular service such that we can go and visit the people in order to get the facts and see exactly what happened and to who, and then we can provide consular service and at the same time inform their families and parents who are here in South Sudan,” said Ambassador Bowgo, “We have the right to question and to talk about the concerns of our citizens, it is very important for us as a government to offer consular services to our people who are not only in Gezira but all the other liberated areas.”

Meanwhile, the Sudanese Ambassador to South Sudan, Lt. General Isam Mohamed Hassan Karra said the government of Sudan has formed a committee to investigate the killing.

“This committee began its work on Tuesday, and I promised Ambassador John Samuel that I will brief him and provide all the information once the investigation is completed,” said Lt Gen Karra, “However, I would like to emphasize that the government of Sudan rejects such acts and crimes, and we are a country that respects international human rights law.”

Condemnation

Condemnation of killing of innocent South Sudanese citizens by the government of Sudan.

We are appealing to the Government of Sudan to publicly apologies to the people and government of South Sudan for barbaric killing of innocent citizens of South Sudan in Wad Madani, Al Jazirah state by Sudan military and compensate the families of who those they innocently killed.

The government must Respect Geneva convention, that Civilians in areas of armed conflict and occupied territories are protected by the 159 articles of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Civilians are to be protected from murder, torture or brutality, and from discrimination based on race, nationality, religion or political opinion.

Secondly Diplomacy is very clear, that you treat the citizens of country (A) according to how they treated your citizens as a country (B). For instance, the good way the South Sudan government and citizens are fairly treating the Sudanese citizens across South Sudan making them feel as party of our citizens. Above all since war broke out in Sudan and thousands of Sudanese crossings to South Sudan for safe heaven. Mr. President Salva Kiir Mayardit initiated as part of his moral responsibility towards Sudanese citizens, he order the government of South Sudan and its citizens to welcome Sudanese and treat them not as refugees but as citizens in their second home, and also opening all public universities to Sudanese students to continue with their studies, but all the good well demonstrated by the government of South Sudan and the citizens are in vain.
