South Sudan Extends Transitional Government by 24 Months Amid Financial Constraints
The High Level Committee on the implementation of the 2018 Revitalised Peace Agreements has agreed to extend the Transitional Government of National Unity for another 24 months. This decision comes from the Parties to the agreement as the Revitalised Peace Agreement is coming to an end in December, and the country is not financially ready to hold elections at that time.
According to Hon. Puot Kang Chol, the committee made all necessary recommendations on the country’s way forward, stating that the Principals would decide on the next step. Today, the Principals, currently in a meeting, agreed to extend the transitional period for 24 months, after which the country will go for elections.
Regarding the Tumaini Peace Process in Nairobi, His Excellency mentioned that it would not affect the transitional government. He also affirmed that the Nairobi Peace Process, or Tumaini Peace, is progressing well.
