The resumption of crude oil production will remain on hold until the conflict in Sudan subsides.

This was confirmed during a closed door sitting in Parliament on Monday, after a question was raised to the minister of petroleum.

The Chairperson of Parliament’s Information Committee, Oliver Mori Benjamin in a briefing to journalists after the meeting, said the conflict in Sudan and the rupturing of a vital oil pipeline carrying crude oil to Port Sudan during the conflict have interrupted exports indefinitely.

“There is no resumption of the oil until the war in Sudan subsides, because our pipe which is taking our oil to Port Sudan has been blocked, being blocked, it got ruptured and by rupturing it part of the oil flows out and the other one remains there thick in the pipe, which will block the whole main pipe carrying the crude oil like the water,” said Benjamin.

Regarding reports that the Malaysian company Petronas has sued the South Sudanese government over the sale of its assets, Oliver Mori Benjamin stated that a technical team is currently addressing the matter.
