Oil Export Through Sudan to Resume in July 2024
Oil export through Sudan to resume in July 2024 according to State media
South Sudan government is expected to replenish its dry coffers and leap from economic turbulence as the country is set to resume crude oil export through war-torn Sudan next month following repairs on a damaged pipeline.
One of the pipelines transporting 60 percent of the country’s crude oil to Port Sudan broke down in February 2024, disrupting the main source of revenue. The situation has induced soaring inflation as the national currency weakened against the US dollar, triggering a sharp increase in commodity prices and leaving families struggling to feed themselves.
According to SSBC, the upcoming resumption of oil export was revealed in a meeting of Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs, Tut Gatluak, with the Director General of Sudan’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, Ahmed Salah Osman and Sudanese engineers on Thursday.
