National Legislative Assembly has Passed the National Security Service Act 2015 Amendment Bill

National Legislative Assembly has passed the National Security Service Act 2015 Amendment Bill, 2024 after a long and heated debate on Wednesday. The bill was passed through voting after lawmakers differed over Articles 54 and 55 which provided for arrest without warrant.
In the final vote, 274 members voted in favour of the Bill and 114 were against with three absent. But the August house has 550 members.
It’s yet unclear whether the article providing for arrest without a warrant has been scraped or maintained. However, most SPLM-IG MPs wanted it maintained while opposition MPs were opposed to it.
The president Salva Kiir is now expected to sign the Bill into law within 30 days. if the president does not sign the bill within 30 days, the bill will automatically become law.
