Government Announced to Includes Tumaini Initiative Groups in Security and Governance Arrangements Under 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement
The government spokesperson Hon. Michael Makuei announced that the government has agreed to include the groups participating in the Tumaini Initiative in the security and governance arrangements of the 2018 peace Agreement.
Hon. Makuei said that they have agreed to rename joint Defense Board to Joint Defense and Security Board to include non-signatories to the peace deal.
He also added that there will be five institutions to oversee the implementation of the Tumaini Initiative. These will include the High Regional Panel that will comprise President Salva Kiir, Kenya’s President William Ruto, and the heads of state in the East African region.
The panel will oversee the work of the national leadership that will comprise President Salva Kiir, FVP. Dr. Riek Machar, the four Vice Presidents, Dr. James Wani Igga, Taban Deng Gai, Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol Agany, and three non-signatories representing the Tumaini Initiative opposition groups.
The National leadership council will oversee the work of national implementation and oversight mechanisms that will include one South Sudanese national, a Kenyan and members of the international community.
The group will take charge of newly established security mechanisms, including retired security officers, who will now oversee the newly established Joint Security Board, responsible for the implementation of the security arrangements.
The JDSF will be tasked to organize the Security sector, which include the Army, Police, National Security Service (NSS) Prison, Wildlife, and Civil Defense Force.
