Full Story of Seven People Suffocate to Death in Kuajok after being Locked in Container

A tragic story of four (4) family members and others three (3) people, who passed away due to suffocation (lack of oxygen) after being confined inside a container for long hours in Kuajok — the eight (7) deceased respectively held from Tonj North and Gogrial East Counties of Warrap State.

On Sunday, May 5th, 2024, Madut Adhieu and his in-laws were involved in the incidence of adultery in Makuok Payam of Abuok Ayom, Tonj North County of Warrap State. Mr. Madut’s wife, Abuk Athian committed adultery with Athian Manut when he [Madut] was in Juba, upon his arrival, he found his wife gave birth to a 3-month-old child and he ordered for the child to be taken to that man who committed adultery with his wife, saying that he’s not raising any man’s child. His statement didn’t sit well with his in-laws, and they went to take the child and bring it to the police station.

When Mr. Madut heard that his in-laws were in the police station with the child, he came with a club (stick) and when his wife saw him coming, she rushed to her brothers for the rescue. Mr. Madut went to where Abuk (his wife) and her brothers were and hit Abuk’s brother, Nhial Athian with that club (stick). Consequently, Nhial Athian speared him with a spear (tong) as a defense and he [Madut] died instantly in the scene. The police intervened and took Nhial Athian to Tonj North County headquarters.

On hearing this, the Governor of Warrap sSate, Kuol Muor Muor directed the Division 11 Commander to arrest the culprits and make sure that the main culprit (Nhial Athian) is fire-squared at the scene. These orders were executed; Nhial Athian and his two brothers plus two nephews got arrested and the main culprit (Nhial) was fire squad as directed by the Governor.

On Monday, May 6th, 2024, the remaining four family members (late Nhial Athian’s two brothers and two nephews) were taken to Warrap State headquarters’ Kuajok upon the Governor’s orders. Those four family members from Tonj North County and the other three people from Gogrial East County were all taken to Kuajok and placed in a 20-feet-container in the state house at Anguei in Kuajok, Warrap State.

The morning of May 7th, 2024, the container was opened only to learn that all the seven people from both Tonj North and Gogrial East counties have passed away due to suffocation (lack of oxygen). The names of the five (5) deceased from Tonj North (Abuok Ayom) are Athian Athian Nhial, Lual Athian Nhial, Athian Athian Athian Nhial Sr. Athian Athian Athian Nhial Jr. and Nhial Athian Nhial, who was fire-squad on Sunday at the scene. This brings the total of five (5) family members. The names of the three (3) deceased from Gogrial East County ( Apuk Giir) are Deng Majok Deng, Maluil Garang Angok, and Wol Duok Lual.
