SSPDF Spokesperson Major Gen. Lul Ruai Says They Have Removed all Illegal Checkpoints across the Country’s Roads

The South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) say they have removed all illegal checkpoints across the country’s roads, except those along the Nile.

The operation began along major routes from Nimule to Juba, Juba to Bor, Juba to Rumbek, and extended to Western Bahr el Ghazal, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Warrap, Western Equatoria, and other regions.

Army spokesperson Major General Lul Ruai Koang told to the media that the move follows a directive from the Presidency to implement the resolution of the 8th Governors and Administrators’ Forum.

“We will enforce that law even if it involves fighting that person resisting removal of checkpoints,” said Major General Lul Ruai.

He further said they are working on modalities of removing the checkpoints dotted along the Nile River and once an agreement is reached, they will implement the directive.

“We shall dismantle them and if consensus is not reached, we shall also dismantle such checkpoints because it is an order that cannot be renegotiated or be negotiated,” he declared.
