Former SSPDF Deputy Chief of Defense Forces Lt. Gen. Bior Ajang Duot, Died Age 77

 

South Sudan is in mourning following the death of Lt. Gen. Bior Ajang Duot, a prominent leader and former Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF).

Ambassador John Samuel Bwogo, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, confirmed that Gen. Bior passed away on Tuesday, 13 August 2024, at his residence in Juba due to cardiac arrest.

General Bior Ajang, also known as Bior-Aswout, was a key figure in South Sudan’s liberation struggle and he played a crucial role in the nation’s journey to independence.

In 2015, Gen. Bior transitioned from his position as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs to become a First Class Ambassador and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

His leadership extended beyond his official roles and until his death, he was also the chairperson of the Twic East Community Association, reflecting his enduring commitment to his community and country.

Gen. Bior’s legacy is one of resilience and commitment to the sovereignty and development of South Sudan. His passing marks the end of an era for many who knew him as a steadfast leader and advocate for his nation’s progress.
