President Salva Kiir Sacks Finance Minister, Nilepet Chief and Two Undersecretaries

JUBA – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit issued a series of presidential decrees on Wednesday night, removing the finance minister, Awou Danial Chuang, and Nilepet Managing Director Bernard Amuor along with undersecretaries of two ministries.

In the decrees readout on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Kiir also sacked petroleum ministry undersecretary William Anyak. He also removed health ministry undersecretary Ader Machar Achiek from his position.

In subsequent decrees, also readout on the state broadcaster, Kiir named Marial Dongrin Ater as the new finance minister, replacing Chuang. He also appointed Mohamed Lino Benjamin as the new Nilepet chief, succeeding Bernard Amuor.

Kiir then appointed former Nilepet Managing Director Chol Deng Thon as the new petroleum ministry undersecretary replacing Anyak. He then appointed Harriet Pasquale as the new undersecretary of the ministry of health.

The president did not provide reasons for these changes, which were announced on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC).
